MCP

Connect your AI to Lattiform’s real tools.

Lattiform includes a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for CAD and FEA automation. An AI client you choose can create and edit geometry, configure and solve engineering studies, and inspect results through Lattiform’s own tools on your Mac.

MCP server: shipped

Client compatibility: beta

A real 17-second, soundless capture: an agent creates and runs a 40-candidate Design Explorer study and compares results through Lattiform’s local MCP tools. Recorded 15 October 2026 in a development build; this is not a build 9 performance benchmark.

What an agent can do.

Shipped

Documents

Create, open, edit, save and export CAD documents, import CAD files and query the model’s geometry.

Shipped

Live editing

Propose a change to the document open in the app, preview it, then adopt it as one native undo step. A proposal larger than 4 MiB is refused.

Shipped

Studies

Create a study, set its material, supports, loads and load cases, run preflight, mesh and solve as background jobs, then read, compare and export the results.

Beta

Design

Write an engineering brief, explore candidates, evaluate, sweep and test sensitivity and convergence, then adopt a candidate or roll it back.

The bundled MCP server lists its available tools and exact schemas through get_capabilities. The tool catalogue can differ between app releases.

Set it up.

Step 1

Install Lattiform

Move Lattiform.app to Applications. The MCP server ships inside it:

MCP server path
/Applications/Lattiform.app/Contents/Helpers/lattiform-mcp

Step 2

Add the server to your AI app

Most MCP clients take a local command. In a client that reads an mcpServers file, the entry looks like this:

MCP client JSON
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "lattiform": {
      "command": "/Applications/Lattiform.app/Contents/Helpers/lattiform-mcp",
      "args": []
    }
  }
}

Step 3

Check the installation

From Terminal, ask the server to check the app it belongs to:

Verify installation
/Applications/Lattiform.app/Contents/Helpers/lattiform-mcp --verify-installation

Step 4

Open the document for live edits

Tools that edit the document you are working on need Lattiform open with that document. Other tools work on their own documents without the app.

Which clients work?

Any MCP client that can start a local stdio server. The recorded client test so far is Codex CLI 0.159.0 calling get_capabilities on a source build (4 October 2026); other clients are not yet confirmed.

Permissions.

It runs as you

The server runs with your user account’s permissions. It opens, saves and exports files at the paths the agent gives it.

Local only

It talks to your AI app over standard input and output, and reaches the open app through a private local channel for your user. It opens no network listener and makes no network connections of its own.

No in-app switch yet

There is no permission toggle in the app. Any program running as you can reach the local channel, so connect only AI apps you trust.

Undo is always there

A live change lands as one native undo step in the document. Many AI apps can also ask you to approve each tool call; that is a setting in your client.

What stays on your Mac, and what reaches your AI provider.

AI provider

Off your Mac. Receives what your AI app sends.

⇄

Your AI app

The MCP client you chose.

⇄

lattiform-mcp

On your Mac, inside Lattiform.app.

⇄

Lattiform

On your Mac: models, solves, files.

Stays on your Mac

Geometry, meshes, solves and files. Lattiform does not send anything to an AI provider, and solving never leaves your Mac.

Reaches your AI provider

Whatever your AI app sends with the conversation, including the tool results the agent reads: part and feature names, dimensions, study settings, result values, file paths and pictures of designs of up to 1 MiB each. Check your AI provider’s data policy.
